Casting Numbers:

Look at the left rear of the block will be a casting number. This will show you what Chevy V8 you have in your vehicle. The Casting number in pic below for example is for a 1968-1976 Chevy 350 used in Trucks and High performance vehicles and will most probably be a 4 bolt main.
